The University Opera Theatre is a premier performing ensemble at the University of Arkansas, primarily comprised of graduate and undergraduate voice majors. Under the direction of opera director, Dr. Jonathan Stinson, UA Opera Theatre presents two major productions per year: one staged scenes with piano and one fully staged with orchestra, costumes, sets, makeup, and supertitles.

The primary venue for the UA Opera Theatre is the beautiful 580-seat Jim and Joyce Faulkner Performing Arts Center, centrally located on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville. Recent fully staged productions include Hansel und Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck, The Old Maid and the Thief by Gian Carlo Menotti, Gianni Schicchi by Giacomo Puccini, Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss, and Die Zauberflöte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Opera Theatre is listed as MUEN 14001, 24001, 34001, 44001, 46001, 54001. Freshmen enroll in the 10000 level, sophomores in the 20000 level, etc.

Audition Information

Auditions are open to any UA student with an interest in opera. All those interested in singing with UA Opera Theatre are required to audition at the end of the previous semester for the subsequent semester’s production. If you have questions, please contact Dr. Stinson at stinson@uark.edu.
