The University of Arkansas Children’s Choir
UACC I (Grades 4-5)
UACC II (Grades 6-8)
UA Cantorum (Grades 8-9)
The University of Arkansas Children’s Choir began in 1997 as a dream of Dr. Donna Wiggins, former Professor of Music at the University of Arkansas. There are currently 120 students involved in the UACC from over 50 schools in the Northwest Arkansas area. Choir I is for students in the 4th and 5th grades. Choir II is for students in the 6th and 7th grades. The UA Cantorum is for 8th and 9th grade students. Under the direction of Candace Davis and her assistants, the students are taught a wide-range of musicality, including sight-singing, rhythm-reading, harmony and solfege. The groups focus on a diverse repertoire of music including classical, Broadway, Spirituals, folk songs, and pop music.
Auditions for the Children’s Choir are held during the spring of each year. Students are recommended by their music teachers and auditioned by the children’s choir director within their schools.
