A native of Trenton, New Jersey, Henry Runkles has taught at the University of Arkansas since 1997.
Besides teaching classes in Music Literature and Class Piano he teaches secondary piano. He accompanies and coaches student recitals, plays for faculty recitals and has been Associate Faculty at Northwest Arkansas Community College since 1997.
Teachers include Beatrice Blackwell and Lois Schaefer in Trenton, New Jersey; Francis Clark and Louise Goss at the New School for Music Study, Kingston, N.J.; Josefina Megret and Inez Leyva in NYC, New York; Moshe Paranov, Ray Hanson and Anne Koscielny at the Hartt College, University of Hartford; John Perry at the Oberlin Conservatory; Charles Crowder at American University
During a seventeen year hiatus he worked conducting internal investigations at The Travelers Home Office, Hartford, Ct. as part of the Corporate Security Division, and served as VP of Operations at a manufacturing plant, “pfi,inc”, in Springdale, Arkansas
Returning to his degree studies at the University of Arkansas, he completed his bachelor and masters piano studies with Dale Millen.
Post graduate studies with Jura Margulis, University of Arkansas; Leontina Margulis at the Russisch-Schule in Freiberg, Germany; studies with Stefana Paunovic and Predrag Obucina at Radionica za Srpski Jezik I Kultura in Belgrade, Serbia.
