Scholarships:

In addition to campus-wide scholarship and financial aid programs such as the Freshman Academic Scholarship and Pell Grants, the Department of Music offers scholarships to deserving students who major in music. These awards are based on musical ability and are renewable for up to four years. Winning a music scholarship does not prevent a student from accepting financial aid from the University as well.

Eligibility: high school seniors, college transfer students and current University of Arkansas students who plan to pursue full time studies in the Department of Music leading to a degree in music are eligible to apply. Students not majoring in music may still be eligible for a Band Grant-in-Aid, a Schola Stipend, or an Orchestral Activities Scholarship.

Awards: Scholarships in various amounts are awarded by the department on the basis of talent, musicianship, academic record and recommendations from previous teachers. Some of the available scholarships are:

  • Music Department Scholarships (based solely on musical ability)
  • Band Grants-In-Aid (require participation in the Razorback Marching Band and a concert band)
  • Arkansas Territorial Scholarships (available to Music Education majors)

Credentials: Applicants must have a completed Music Scholarship Application form on file in the Department of Music.

Auditions: All candidates will perform for a Department of Music Auditioning Committee. Auditions include solo performance of on or more compositions. If a candidate lives a great distance from campus, the candidate may submit a tape recording.

Auditions for Vocal Music Majors:
1.   Contact Ms. Elaine Cencel to schedule your audition for either Friday, October 10th or Monday, November 10th, 2008.
2.   At your audition you will be asked to sing any song of your choice. It is preferable that this be a classical selection, however other styles such as Musical Theatre are also acceptable.
3.   Bring a copy of your music for the accompanist.
4.   If you wish to be considered for a voice scholarship, fill out a Scholarship Application Form and bring this to your audition. You can print a copy from the Music Department website, or pick up a copy in the Music Department Office.
5.   A spring audition date may be added if necessary.

Auditions for Choral Ensembles:
1.   Auditions for placement in to the choirs are held during the first two days of classes each semester.
2.   A limited number of Choral Scholarships are available for non-Music Majors. To schedule an audition for these, please contact Dr. Graeme Langager, Director of Choral Activities at sing@uark.edu or (479) 575-3141.
Forms:

Some of these forms can be filled out, printed, then submitted for the appropriate signatures. Please keep in mind that these forms can NOT be submitted via the internet or e-mail, they MUST be submitted in paper form with the appropriate signatures.
